Gaining a New Perspective
It is so easy for us to get bogged down in the details of our lives and not be
able to see the bigger picture. But, why is it important to be able to put things
into perspective?
As humans, we are hard-wired to focus on the negative things in our life; the
things that are going wrong. Perhaps this is even more so in today’s society of
social media and people constantly comparing themselves to unrealistic ideals.
When we widen our perspective, it allows us to focus on more of what’s before
us including all the things that are good and positive.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘can’t see the woods for the trees,’ or, ‘don’t
sweat the small stuff.’ Both indicate that focusing too much on the details is
not a good idea. In fact, in my experience as a therapist, this can actually lead
to anxiety, worry and even depression. Have you ever stood at the top of a
mountain or looked out to a wide landscape and felt a sense of freedom and
relief? The wider perspective can make the things you’re worrying about seem
smaller.
So, how do we see this bigger picture? You can download my hypnosis session
as well as my worksheet in the ‘printables’ section to really change the way
you see things. The benefits include feeling calmer, feeling more in control,
feeling more confident and feeling happier.
