Stop People Pleasing!
Are You a People Pleaser?
Are you preoccupied with what other people think? Do you agree to things you don’t really want to do or have a difficult time saying no? Being a people pleaser often means doing anything possible to avoid conflict even if that means becoming a completely different person. Unfortunately, this can have a detrimental effect on your own happiness and well-being.
Signs you are a people pleaser
You worry what people will think of you if you say no
You over apologise
You struggle with low self-esteem and self-worth
You don’t believe you are enough
You look for people’s approval by doing things for them
You take the blame even when things are not your fault
You neglect yourself and your own needs
You fill your time doing things for other people
You often feel drained and stressed
Being caring, kind and thoughtful are commendable qualities to have, but issues can arise when you exhibit these qualities in order to receive validation from others. Self-esteem and self-worth have to come from within, not from the opinions of other people. When we are not being true to ourselves, we can experience anger, frustration and even anxiety.
