Healing From The Past

You may hear people say that the past is in the past, or that you should just

move on with your life, but that is often more easily said than done. Issues

from the past have a way of continually re-surfacing and causing us problems

in the present.

When we suffer trauma in our lives, we need to find a way to process that

trauma in a healthy way so that it doesn’t keep affecting us in the here and

now. Trauma itself can be very difficult to define and can range from what is

sometimes known as trauma with a capital T, such as being in a war zone, to

trauma with a small t, such as being trapped in an elevator; it is all subjective.

Seemingly minor incidents can easily cause trauma if the conditions are right,

and this trauma can be triggered when our subconscious is reminded about

what happened. Sometimes, something as simple as a smell or a taste can

make us feel that we are actually re-living a past incident. It may be that one

specific incident is at the route of the trauma, or it may be lots of experiences

over a longer period of time.

The symptoms of these negative experiences from the past can range from

fear and anxiety to depression and hopelessness. They can lead to unhealthy

coping strategies such as over using alcohol, drugs, food or shopping as we try

to find a way to make ourselves feel better. We might not even realise on a

conscious level that it is our past trauma that is making us behave this way; we

just know that something doesn’t feel right.

So, how do we deal with our past in a positive way so that we can move

forward with our lives? Hypnosis is one way that is incredibly effective because

it deals with any issues at the root. It allows you to gain access to the

subconscious mind where everything that has ever happened to you is stored.

It’s then possible to process those past experiences in a way that wasn’t

possible at the time they occurred. Once that’s happened, it’s much easier to

let them go.
